Royal Flush |
This is the highest hand in poker, it is essentially the highest straight flush consisting of all the face cards. |

Straight Flush |
Combines a straight and a flush, consecutive numbers with cards of the same suit. |
6s, 7s, 8s, 9s, 10s |

Four of a kind |
Four cards with the same value. |

Full House |
Three cards of the same value combined with a pair of cards |
3d, 3s, 3h, 2h, 2s |

Flush |
All the cards must be from the same suit, in any order. |
2s, 5s, 4s, 8s, As |

Straight |
All cards in consecutive order. The Ace can be ranked high or low, it can end or start a straight. It cannot however be a middle card. Wrapping is not allowed.
This is not a valid hand K,A,1,2,3. You cannot wrap Aces. |

3 of a kind |
Three cards with the same value. |

Two Pair |
Two sets of pairs. Again the kicker here is a 5. |

Pair |
Two cards with the same value. Often an opponent will represent the same pair, in this case the person with the highest kicker wins. The kicker in this example is the 8. |

High Card |
This hand represents a King as the high card, this will rarely win a hand. If the opposition also has a king then the next card in order of value is used, in this case the Queen of clubs is the next high card, then the jack, 8, then 7. |
